I first heard of Jan Harold Brunvand when I checked out one of his
Urban Legend collections from the public library back home. I read it
about five times before I had to return it; it was full of all these
stories that had been passed on at sleepovers and at school and that,
while I had never taken them totally for truth, had never realized they
were so widespread, that everybody had heard them. I became facinated
with Urban Legends, which eventually led me to Snopes.com. This book
includes much more information on how the stories started and were
spread than the other Brunvand book, which basically just reprinted the
tales.
